Kazakhstan: bribery is the most popular crime among officials

There were 1,647 corruption crimes in Kazakhstan in the first seven months of 2021. Such data are contained in the report of the Committee on Legal Statistics and Special Records of the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic.

In terms of severity, the largest number of crimes falls on grave crimes – 785. During this period, there were also 236 corruption crimes of medium gravity, 78 of minor gravity, and 26 of extremely serious crimes.

It is noteworthy that out of 1125 corruption crimes, 150 were committed by officials, or by persons authorized to perform state functions.

It should be noted that in the period under review, criminal cases were conducted on 1647 corruption crimes. Of these, in 558 cases, officials were the suspects. The most popular crime among officials, according to reports, is giving a bribe – 193 criminal cases. Taking a bribe took second place (169 criminal cases).

The most corrupt civil servants are the employees of the internal affairs bodies (120 crimes), the second place is taken by the employees of the Ministry of Finance (26 cases), the third is the Committee of the Penitentiary System (19 cases).

The total established damage from corruption crimes amounted to $ 17.4 million, of which $ 13.5 million was returned.
