Uzbekistan: two police officers were detained while receiving a bribe
A Senior Investigator of the Department of Internal Affairs of Andijan region and the head of the temporary detention center of Andijan region were detained red-handed. During a joint operation by the State Security Service and the Anti-Corruption Agency, they were detained while receiving $ 12,000.
In the disseminated message of the departments, the police officers promised, using contacts in court, to mitigate the punishment for a person, who was accused of violating the law on personal data and customs legislation.
They promised the citizen, who was accused under article 141-2 (Violation of legislation on personal data) and article 182 (Violation of customs legislation) of the Criminal Code to assist through their acquaintances in imposing a sentence not related to imprisonment. In exchange for the service, they demanded $ 12,000 from his sister.
Probably, in a criminal liaison, the officers have repeatedly made such deals and came to the attention of the State Security Service. The role of the Agency, which has the functions of monitoring and tracing corruption processes, remains unclear in operational activities. The participation of the regional law enforcement apparatus in the operation is not reported, although the head of the regional police department, Colonel Azat Tasbayev, prior to his appointment, worked as deputy head of the Internal Security Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country.
