Uzbekistan: protesters were detained and fined
In Nukus, after a protest action on October 14, more than 30 participants were detained. They were rounded up by the unit of the National Guard and, after being forcibly detained, were taken to the Central Internal Affairs Department of the capital of Karakalpakstan.
According to the information center of the separatists of Karakalpak “Shirak-2014”, two groups participated in the protests, one of which was captured by the security forces, and the other was dispersed. Representatives of six districts came to Svoboda [Freedom] square.
From the moment of detention until midnight, the interrogation of the detained human rights defenders was conducted. All participants in the protest action were fined.
The protesters were outraged by the ongoing pressure on civil society activists. The well-being of the inhabitants of the Autonomous republic in the conditions of Aral Sea ecological catastrophe worsened even more after the introduction of quarantine. Any manifestation of dissatisfaction is severely suppressed by the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Security Service and the National Guard.
This is the second significant action. Last year, on August 1, Tleubike Uldasheva and Perizat Begzhanova with their children also went to Svoboda [Freedom] square with posters: “We went on a hunger strike”, “Who is listening to a single mother?”, “Women’s committee – no!”, “Respect the Constitution!”. They blamed the authorities for the lack of support for single mothers, non-payment of unemployment benefits and childcare benefits. The women were beaten and fined $ 300 and $ 125. The judges motivated their decision by the fact that residents of Karakalpakstan cannot hold protests in public places.
Earlier, ACCA wrote about how, on February 23 this year, a resident of Karakalpakstan Bagdat Ismailov posted a video message to the President Mirziyoev on the network, during which he cut his stomach in protest against the oppressions of local security officials.
