Uzbekistan: about 40 people are involved in the case of embezzlement of budget funds
During the investigation, the volume of embezzlement in the City Department of Public Education increased to 57 billion sums ($5,253,000).
The Prosecutor’s Office of Andijan region is investigating financial violations in the City Department of Public Education of Andijan. The number of those under investigation is already approaching 40. During the audit in the Department of Education of Andijan, the internal audit service of the Ministry of Public Education, together with the Accounts Chamber, revealed financial violations of more than 43 billion sums in 2020-2021.
As the Ministry of Finance previously reported, only from November 1, 2018 to November 1, 2020, officials, having fraudulently processed documents, received 33.8 billion sums in cash from the bank in addition to the salaries of employees.
How such mass theft affected the educational process during this period, the MPE doesn’t report.
Recently, the region has been marked by the introduction of unusual pedagogical technologies. The material of Kun.uz media describes the “Campfire night” campaigns held everywhere. At these events, schoolchildren danced, sang and recited poetry. Teachers are indignant with that, because they are forced into such activities and kept in schools until 10:00 pm.
The situation was scandalous when on February 4, in Markhamat district of Andijan region, teachers of special school No. 72 began to apologize in an unheated hall to the parents for the quality of education at the school and the low percentage of graduates enrolled in the country’s universities. They were forced to do this by the head of the Department of Public Education of the district and the assistant to the head of the local administration.
According to the ACCA expert, responsibilities are clearly distributed in the educational system of Uzbekistan: who should steal from the budget and who should imitate improving the quality of education under the pretext of fulfilling the directives of President Mirziyoyev.
