Uzbekistan: 20 employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were fired in Bukhara
In 2020, 20 employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were fired for impropriety. This was announced at a press conference by the head of the Regional Department of Internal Affairs of Bukhara Shukhrat Aliyev.
He noted that in 2020, 22 grave crimes, 98 cases of robbery and theft, 33 cases of hooliganism and 367 frauds, 3 episodes of extortion and 1 kidnapping were recorded in Bukhara. The number of moderate injuries was increased by 63, and the number of slight injuries – by 129 cases.
According to him, “in Bukhara, there are 3425 people on average for each prevention inspector. There are currently 83 prevention inspectors who work in two or more quarters.”
The reason for dismissal in the region can be not only official negligence. Prevention inspector Furkat Kurbanov, who worked for six years in the system of internal affairs bodies, was dismissed from his job in June 2019 because he couldn’t find a sponsor for the renovation of the building of the Department of Internal Affairs of Bukhara district (Bukhara region).
Activists are actively monitoring human rights violations in the region by law enforcement and intelligence agencies. Earlier, ACCA wrote about the picket of human rights defenders Solmaz Akhmedova and Elena Urlaeva near the building of the State Security Service in Tashkent on January 5. They accused the special service officers of Bukhara region of torturing citizens.
