Turkmenistan: victim of violence was offered $ 10,000 and pardon

The prisoner, who was attempted to be raped by the employees of the women’s colony DZ-K / 8, is under pressure from the Prosecutor’s Office, the administration of the colony and the relatives of the rapists with a demand to withdraw her statement.

In early January, ACCA reported about the detention of employees of the women’s colony while attempting to rape a prisoner.

As we managed to find out, after that the prisoner was summoned to the office of the head of the women’s colony, where the head of the Department of the Prosecutor’s Office for supervision of the penitentiary institution and the head of the colony himself persuaded to withdraw the statement from the Prosecutor’s Office. She was promised that her data would be included in the first list of pardons this year and a financial compensation from the relatives of one of the detainees.

It turned out that one of the detainees in the case of attempted rape had an uncle working in the Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Dashoguz, and a relative of other detainee was a well-known and influential businessman.

The woman refused to withdraw her statement and stated that she was ready to serve her term in accordance with the court’s verdict, and these three guards, who tried to rape her, should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Due to the coronavirus epidemic, visits are prohibited in colonies throughout the country, but the victim was given a date, but not with her family, with a relative of one of those detained in the case of attempted rape, who openly offered the victim assistance in early release and $10,000 as compensation. In case of refusal, the victim was promised to have big problems in the colony.

The prisoner wrote the statement to the head of the colony, in which she indicated the threats, she had received, and reminded that “all responsibility for the safety and life of the prisoners lies on the shoulders of the colony’s administration”.

It’s worth recalling that this is not the first case of an attempted rape in a women’s colony, and the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Department of the execution of sentences know the situation. However, no measures are taken to suppress the abuse of women prisoners.
