Turkmenistan deteriorated its position in the Corruption Perceptions Index
Transparency International, an international anti-corruption non-governmental organization, has published its Annual survey “Corruption Perceptions Index – 2021”.
In this study, Turkmenistan dropped 4 points down to 169th place, the same result as Burundi and Congo.
Turkmenistan’s index is the worst among Central Asian countries; Kazakhstan has 37 scores, Uzbekistan – 28, Kyrgyzstan – 27 and Tajikistan – 25.
Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Singapore and New Zealand topped the list. Somalia, South Sudan, Afghanistan, Syria, North Korea, Venezuela and Yemen were on the list of the most corrupt.
In its report, Transparency International noted that the leaders of the Central Asian countries used the COVID-19 situation to introduce additional measures to restrict human rights. These restrictions hinder the fight against bribery, independent monitoring and facilitate the growth of corruption.
It’s worth noting that Turkmenistan constantly occupies the lowest places in the world ratings of corruption, freedom of the media, human rights and freedom of speech.
