Turkmenistan: convicted activist needs medical attention
Activist Pigambergeldy Allaberdyev, sentenced by a court in Balkanabat to 6 years in prison on trumped-up charges, is in a difficult situation.
As ACCA source informed, upon his arrival to the colony he was given a mattress and overalls, but there were no free beds and Pigambergeldy slept outside in front of the entrance to the barrack. It is also noted that he was severely sick this winter. ACCA learned that he had never been on a date for a year and that he was being monitored in the colony around the clock by the administration.
The activist does not have winter clothes and shoes. At the moment, Pygambergelda has high blood pressure and a severe cough, there is a suspicion of Covid19 and tuberculosis. In the sanitary unit, he is not provided with medicines or any medical assistance. The colonies of Turkmenistan have had a high incidence of tuberculosis and mortality for over twenty years.
Meanwhile, Mansur Mingelov is in a strict regime colony, he was transferred to the medical unit in critical condition. Mingelov’s leg was broken during his detention and he developed osteomyelitis. Mansur also had a severe form of tuberculosis and at the moment his health condition raises serious concerns. Mansur also does not receive medical assistance and does not receive the necessary medicines.
In Turkmenistan, $ 8 per day is allocated for the maintenance of one inmate, with a maximum of one dollar reaching the prisoner. Everything else is stolen by officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs. There is no qualified medical personnel due to the outrageous corruption and theft. All kinds of committees are sent to the colony, but upon arrival at the colony they are given bribes, and they leave back to Ashgabat without discovering any violations. The country’s authorities are aware of corruption and theft in the structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs but do not react in any way to this situation.
