The most corrupt body in Kazakhstan is the Ministry of Internal Affairs

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan led the rating of the most corrupt central government bodies.

This was announced at a briefing by the head of the prevention department of the Anti-Corruption Agency Anar Zharova. According to her, there were totally 297 corruption offenses in the structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the year. The Ministry of Finance took the second place in the ranking (49 offenses). On the third one, there is the Ministry of Defense (29 facts of corruption). On the fourth there is the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development (20). The Ministry of Agriculture closes the top five (19 corruption offenses).

“I note that basically crimes are committed in the territorial divisions or subordinate organizations of these ministries,” Zharova explained.

At the same time, she added that the number of convicted under corruption articles in 2019 decreased compared to 2018 by 7% and amounted to 1002 people.

“515 of them are employees of the central state bodies, 261 are local executive bodies, 37 worked in the quasi-public sector, 189 are other persons,” Zharova noted.

It should be noted that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan tops the rating of the most corrupt structures already the third year on end.
