Tajikistan: prosecutor’s office covers up frauds of the president’s family
Tajik Prosecutor-General, Yusuf Rahmon, during a July 14 press conference said that the COVID-19 treatment for citizens is absolutely free. “The prosecutor’s office did not reveal a single fact, and there were no complaints from citizens on this matter,” he stated.
These words became a matter of many discussions on social networks. Tajik citizens accuse Yusuf Rahmon of lying. Hundreds of citizens published their stories on the networks about paid services in hospitals, as well as about the neglect of their written complaints by the prosecution authorities.
The Prosecutor-General also denied the information that humanitarian aid coming into the country is being sold.
Recall, from the first days of the COVID-19 pandemic, humanitarian aid from a dozen countries began to arrive in Tajikistan, although at that time official Dushanbe stated that there were no coronavirus cases in the country. However, authorities forced medical facilities doctors to buy protective suits and masks, although all this came to the country as humanitarian aid.
Experts link the situation to the fact that the entire medical sphere in the country is supervised by one of the president’s daughters, who, in fact, was engaged in the sale of humanitarian aid. Various drugs, which came into the country as humanitarian aid, were also found in several pharmacies.
Later, the entire Emomali Rahmon family began distributing humanitarian aid to the people on their own behalf, which also led to some tricky moments. All this was accompanied by the dissatisfaction of the population with the actions of the country’s leadership, as people in droves began to die due to COVID-19.
Mortality in Tajikistan for the last 6 months increased by 11% compared to the same period in 2019. It was announced at a press conference in the Ministry of Justice of Tajikistan. At the same time, Justice Minister Muzaffar Ashurien does not believe that the increase in mortality is associated with coronavirus. “People died not only because of COVID-19,” the minister summed up modestly.
Ashurien also said that 41 prisoners died in prisons, including 11 due to pneumonia. In total, 98 convicts fell ill with pneumonia.
Statisticians of the Sughd region went even further. The head of the Civil Status Department Lola Fayzzoda said at a press conference that 6063 people died in the region in the first half of the year. Including 203 due to pneumonia and 109 due to heart and lung failure and lung disease. At the same time, COVID-19 is not indicated in any case as a cause of death.
Officially, the Tajik authorities today recognized 56 deaths due to COVID-19. Although, according to alternative statistics conducted by Tajik activists, the number of deaths due to coronavirus today has reached 437 cases. However, for the mention of alternative statistics in the media and by citizens nowadays faces a fine. Recall that on July 4, the President of Tajikistan signed a new law, according to which any information that is not official is considered false, and individuals will be held accountable for its spreading in Tajikistan.
