Tajikistan: officials stole more than $ 25 million by 2020
Such financial damage was revealed as a result of inspections of the activities of ministries, departments, centers for the implementation of investment projects, banks and enterprises by the Chamber of Accounts of Tajikistan in 2020.
As the head of the Chamber of Accounts, Karakhon Chillazoda, said during the press conference, about 90% of financial losses were returned to the state treasury. As it turned out, illegal cash expenditures took the first place among the violations. In departments and institutions, there were such financial violations as overpricing during repair and construction work, during the sale and lease of state property, understatement and concealment of taxes, non-payment of dividends of state shares, etc.
“More than 100 ministries, departments and institutions have been checked, and there is not a single one in which financial deficiencies have not been found,” Chillazoda said. “However, this doesn’t mean that all funds were stolen, most of them were misused.”
On the fact of the revealed violations, 16 materials were transferred to the Prosecutor General’s Office, 8 materials – to the State Committee for National Security and 24 materials – to the State Financial Control Agency. In addition, disciplinary and material penalties were imposed on 394 people, 4 officials were dismissed from their jobs.
