Kyrgyzstan: torture victim will receive compensation of about $ 600

A judge of Pervomaisky District Court satisfied the claim for compensation based on the decision of the UN Human Rights Committee in favor of the torture victim Ulan Nazaraliev. This was reported by the Coalition against Torture in Kyrgyzstan.

On February 24, a trial was held in the case of Ulan Nazaraliev, who was tortured and harassed by police officers. Judge of Pervomaisky District Court, Aigul Umetova, satisfied the claim for compensation based on the decision of the UN Human Rights Committee.

“The court established the amount of $ 600 (50,000 KGS). Nazaraliev’s lawyer, Sardorbek Abdukhalilov, intends to appeal for an increase in compensation, since the severity of the physical and mental suffering doesn’t correspond to the established amount of compensation,” the Coalition noted.

It should be noted that representatives of the torture victim Ulan Nazaraliev demanded to recover from the Ministry of Finance $ 35.3 thousand (3 million KGS) for the physical and moral harm.

It should be reminded that 38-year-old Ulan Nazaraliev was beaten with fists and legs, and was also strangled in the temporary detention center of Jalal-Abad Department of Internal Affairs. When he complained of a headache, the police gave him a razor, saying that “he can even cut himself and no one will help him.” The man, out of despair, cut his wrists.
