Kyrgyzstan: three victims of torture will receive $1,200 compensation

On January 18, the Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan supported three victims of torture, upholding the decision of the district court, according to which each of them would be paid $1,200 (100,000 KGS). This was announced by a member of the Coalition against Torture – the public foundation “Candle of the century (Kylym shamy)”.

The court didn’t satisfy the complaint of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan and the Ministry of Economy and Finance on reducing the amount of compensation for each victim of torture to $600 (50,000 KGS), leaving the decision of the previous instance in force and recovering morale damage in the amount of $3,600 (300,000 KGS) in favor of the victims.

It’s worth recalling that from December 3 to 5, 2013, employees of the Department of Internal Affairs of the city of Kyzyl-Kiya, in order to obtain confessions to the murder, used physical force with the use of stun g/wpt the time of the torture).
