Kyrgyzstan: The detainee cut her wrists to protest pressure

Blogger Batmakan Zholdubayeva, who is in a temporary detention center after the death of the journalist, opened her veins. This was reported in the press service of the Department of Internal Affairs of Batken region.

 With injuries, the woman was taken to the traumatology department of the regional hospital of Batken, where she got medical assistance. Doctors assessed the patient’s health status as stable and she was again placed in the temporary detention center

The blogger’s lawyer, Nazgul Suyunbayeva, told reporters that the threats and pressure exerted on her client could be the reasons for injuring herself.

“Batmakan Zholdubayeva complained to me about threats and harassment from the head and other employees of the detention facility. We met with the head of the temporary detention center to clarify the situation, but after our departure, he began to put even more pressure on Batmakan. Unable to stand it, she opened her veins,” the lawyer commented on the incident.

On March 26, in the city of Batken, Arzygul Galymbetova, a journalist from the well-known media AKIpress, died at the age of 37. On the day of her death, the woman turned to the Department of Internal Affairs of Batken and reported that the user of YouTube channel Batma-Bat slanders her on social networks, causing damage to her honor and dignity. A few hours after contacting the police, Arzygul became ill, and she died on the evening of that day. Investigators connect the death of the journalist with the actions of blogger Batmakan Zholdubayeva. She is charged under the article “Causing death by negligence”.
