Kyrgyzstan: Sapar Isakov and Albek Ibraimov were put on the interstate wanted list

Former prime minister and ex-mayor were put on the interstate wanted list. This was reported by 24.kg news agency with reference to the State Penitentiary Service.

They are wanted for evasion of punishment; a criminal case was initiated earlier.

Sapar Isakov was sentenced in 2019 to 15 years on charges of corruption during the reconstruction of the Combined heat and power plant in Bishkek. Later, he was charged with corruption during the reconstruction of the Historical Museum and the hippodrome in Cholpon-Ata, and the court sentenced him to 18 years in prison. Albek Ibraimov was also involved in a corruption case. He was found guilty of “illegal transfer of municipal land” and the sale of the resort “Sunny beach”. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Both convicts were released on the night of October 5-6 during the mass protests caused by the results of the parliamentary elections. Later, according to Sapar Isakov, he was allegedly released on legal grounds with the wording “for seven days for family reasons”. Both convicts were supposed to return to the places of detention on October 13.

It is worth adding that together with Isakov and Ibraimov, the former President Almazbek Atambaev, his supporters and Sadyr Japarov, who is now the prime minister of the republic and acting President of the Kyrgyz Republic, were released from custody.
