Kyrgyzstan: Raiymbek Matraimov renounced claims to media
The lawyer of the family of Matraimov asked the court to terminate the proceedings against the media due to the fact that “claims have lost their relevance”. This was reported by the journalists of Kloop media.
In Sverdlovskiy District Court of Bishkek, a meeting was held on the claim for the protection of the honor and dignity of the members of Matraimov’s family. During the hearing, the plaintiffs asked to terminate the proceedings.
“We have filed an application for waiver of claims. The facts, that we wanted to prove as a result of the consideration of this case, were the subject of research in the criminal case. They were given an appropriate assessment; the results of the criminal case were brought to the attention of the public. In this regard, we believe that this lawsuit has already lost its relevance,” said the lawyer of the ex-customs officer and his wife, Tatyana Karyzhinskaya.
The defendants didn’t object. As a result, the judge decided to terminate the proceedings on this claim. Earlier, other members of Matraimov’s family also sent a statement to Sverdlovskiy District Court to waive the claim against the journalists.
On February 11 of this year, Raiymbek Matraimov was found guilty of corruption. The court sentenced him to a fine of $ 3,000. In addition, the ex-customs officer reimbursed damage to the state in the amount of $ 23.5 million.
It’s worth noting that in December 2019, Matraimov went to court with the claim for the protection of his honor and dignity. The defendants in the case were Kloop, Azattyk and the journalist Ali Toktakunov, who prepared a series of publications about the former customs officer and his family. The amount of claims was $ 530,000.
