Kyrgyzstan: politician, who was arrested for bribe, complains of torture
On social networks, associates of Melis Aspekov, who was detained on suspicion of extorting $ 250,000 from officials of the state enterprise “Kyrgyz Railways”, announced that he was beaten in the detention center of the State Committee for National Security.
They supported their post with eloquent photographs with a huge bruise on Aspekov’s leg. They claim that Aspekov was beaten in the pre-trial detention center for allegedly refusing to testify against the former head of the Financial Police Syimyk Zhapykeyev.
The State Committee for National Security denied information about the beating of the activist, and assert that these photos were taken in March this year.
“According to Aspekov himself, he received bodily injuries on March 4, 2021 during his visit to Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek. He refused to disclose the reason for the appearance of bodily harm and has no claims to the employees of the pre-trial detention center of the State Committee for National Security. This is confirmed by the statement, drawn up on March 11, 2021,” the State Committee for National Security commented.
Melis Aspekov was detained on suspicion of extorting $ 250,000 from officials of the state enterprise “Kyrgyz Railways” in early January 2021. According to the investigation, they, posing as close associates of Sadyr Japarov, threatened to conduct an inspection of the state-owned enterprise by the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes and organize rallies against their administration.
