Kyrgyzstan: official, suspected of corruption, pleads guilty and returns $ 30,000 to budget
State secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Roads, Ermek Mamyrkaliev, who was detained on suspicion of corruption, pleaded guilty. The Financial Police of the republic informs about it.
On January 7, 2021, Ermek Mamyrkaliev was detained on suspicion of involvement in organizing a corruption scheme in the Ministry of Transport. On January 9, the official admitted his guilt and voluntarily returned more than $ 30 thousand (2.5 million KGS) to the state.
On the same day, Pervomaisky District court of Bishkek applied a preventive measure in the form of house arrest against Mamyrkaliev.
“Within the framework of pre-trial proceedings, the Financial Police has brought to criminal responsibility about 30 officials of different ranks. The damage under this corruption scheme amounted to $ 240.7 thousand (20 million KGS), of which almost the entire amount was already reimbursed by the Financial Police,” the department said.
The pre-trial investigation is nearing completion.
