Kyrgyzstan: mayor of Nookat arrested for abuse of office

The State Committee for National Security has detained the officials of the Nookat Mayor’s Office of Osh Oblast. This was reported by the press service of the department.

It is specified that in the course of a complex of investigative and operational measures within the framework of pre-trial proceedings, registered in the Unified Register under Article 320 of Part 2 “Abuse of Official Position” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, employees of the Nookat mayor’s office were detained.

“It was established that in the period from 2017 to June 2021, they, abusing their official position, caused damage to the budget in the amount of $ 177.4 thousand (15 million 43.7 thousand soms),” the State Committee informs.

Thus, on October 13, following Article 98 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, the mayor of the city of Nookat and the ex-speaker, now a deputy of the Nookat City Kenesh, were placed in the temporary detention facility of the State Committee for National Security.

Currently, within the framework of the specified pre-trial proceedings, investigative and operational measures are being taken to bring the perpetrators to criminal responsibility and to compensate for damage to the budget.
