Kyrgyzstan: Judge was detained for bribe extortion
The State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan, during the ongoing operational-search activities, established the fact of extortion of a bribe in the amount of $308 (25,000 KGS) by a judge of the District Court of Bakai-Ata (Talas region).
The investigation believes that the judge, who previously received a monetary reward in the amount of $62 (5,000 KGS) from the victim, and in March 2022, through his secretary of the court session, received part of the noted sum in the amount of $124 (10,000 KGS) for a positive decision on the civil case under consideration about the division of arable land.
“In order to suppress and document the criminal intentions of the judge of the said District Court, this fact was registered in the Unified Register by the Prosecutor General of the Kyrgyz Republic on the grounds of a crime under Article 343 “Extortion of a bribe” of the Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan,” informs the State Committee for National Security.
On April 16, the judge of the District Court of Bakai-Ata was detained while receiving the remaining amount of the monetary reward. Currently, within the framework of the criminal case, a/wpive and operational measures are being carried out.
