Kyrgyzstan: ex-prime minister was sentenced to 18 years in prison for corruption
On June 9, in Bishkek, the judge of Pervomaisky District court, Marat Sydykov, announced the verdict on the criminal case concerning the repair of the Historical Museum and the reconstruction of the hippodrome in Cholpon-Ata.
The court found the former prime minister Sapar Isakov guilty under the article 319 of part 2 “Corruption” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic and sentenced him to imprisonment for 18 years. In addition, the court decided to recover $3.4 million (247 650 000 KGS) from him as compensation for damage.
The Prosecutor’s office requested 20 years in prison for him.
On December 6, 2019, Sverdlovsky District court of Bishkek sentenced Isakov to 15 years in prison concerning the case of corruption in the reconstruction of the heating plant.
The former head of the Department of civil development, religious and ethnic politics of the presidential apparatus, Mira Karybaeva, who was also involved in the criminal case for the repair of the Historical Museum, the court found guilty under the article 320 of part 1 “Abuse of official position” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic and sentenced her to a fine of $3.5 thousand (260 000 KGS).
In July 2018, the Prosecutor General’s office opened a criminal case on the illegal use of budget funds allocated for the reconstruction of the building and the purchase of equipment for the State Historical Museum. Damage to the state was estimated at $4.2 million (307 650 000 KGS).
