Kyrgyzstan: ex-Prime Minister Temir Sariev was detained in the case of Kumtor
Based on the results of the investigative actions and the evidence obtained in the case, on August 3, 2021, the investigative body decided to detain the former Prime Minister of the country Temir Sariev. This was reported by the State Committee for National Security.
Currently, he is placed in the temporary detention center of the State Committee for National Security.
The investigation established that Temir Sariev, being the Minister of Economy and at the same time being the chairman of the relevant State Commission, understated the amount of environmental damage from the operation of the deposit “Kumtor” by several billion KGS, as a result of which the state suffered colossal damage.
“After the arrest of Temir Sariev, the interdepartmental investigative group will continue investigative actions with him, according to the results of which, in the next 48 hours, the Pervomaiskiy District Court of Bishkek will conside/wpng a preventive measure,” the State Committee said.
