Kyrgyzstan: ex-Prime Minister Mukhammedkaly Abylgaziev was detained

Ex-Prime Minister Mukhammedkaly Abylgaziev has been detained. A former high-ranking official was placed in the temporary detention center of the State Committee for National Security.

The ex-Prime Minister is suspected of illegal enrichment. The decision to choose a measure of restraint for the former head of government will soon be made by Pervomaisky District court of Bishkek.

It’s worth adding that last year Abylgaziev was suspected of involvement in the scandalous sale of frequencies of Ala-TV company to Beeline (one of the largest telecom operators). Then the Prime Minister was accused of lobbying the interests of the operator. Deputy Zhanar Akaev was one of the first to publicly declare the involvement of Mukhammedkaly Abylgaziev in violations of the legislation in the field of communications.

The Prime Minister denied any involvement in the case, and called the accusations against him libel. However, against the background of the accusations, he first went on a short vacation, and then resigned in June 2020.

In May last year, ex-Director of the State Communications Agency Natalya Chernogubova, some employees of the State Committee for National Security, a representative of Ala-TV company were detained in the case of the scandalous sale of frequencies, and its owner was put on the wanted list.
