Kyrgyzstan: Ex-head of customs, suspected of corruption, was released under house arrest
The Pervomaiskiy District Court of Bishkek released ex-Chairman of the Customs Service Adilet Kubanychbekov under house arrest. The reasons for the mitigation of punishment was the reimbursement of $ 510,600 to the state.
Kubanychbekov was appointed to the post of Chairman of the Customs Service at the end of October last year.
According to investigators, the ex-head of customs was involved in an illegal scheme to provide benefits to private companies involved in the import of goods. In addition, the investigators concluded that Kubanychbekov hid goods from the customs administration for bribes.
He was detained on January 17 on suspicion of “Corruption”, in which the administration and heads of customs departments were involved.
The petition for house arrest was filed by the head of the investigation group of the State Committee for National Security.
