Kazakhstan: three arrested people died in a special detention center in Kokshetau

An emergency occurred at the police special detention center in Kokshetau. Six people, who were serving an administrative arrest in one cell, suddenly felt unwell.

According to the press service of the Police Department of Akmola region, in the morning all six had convulsions, and some started vomiting. Two of them (32 and 41-year-old arrested persons), doctors could not help. A little later, the third prisoner died in the hospital.

“A criminal case has been instituted on the fact of poisoning under the article “Violation of sanitary rules or hygienic standards, resulting in the death of two or more persons by negligence”. More detailed information will be provided after obtaining the results of the examination,” the press service noted, adding that a special commission of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is currently working in the special detention center.

As for the other prisoners, two of them are now at resuscitation in grave condition. The fate of another one is not reported.

The press service also noted that a variety of versions are being considered, including poisoning with drugs or a poisonous substance.

Recall that this year, it is not the first death of arrested persons in Akmola region. So, on the night of February 24-25, a civil activist Dulat Agadil died in a pre-trial detention center of the city of Nur-Sultan, just a few hours after he was taken there.

Three months later, the investigation into the death of the activist was dismissed due to the absence of a criminal offense. According to investigators, the activist died due to acute myocardial infarction, the cause of which was an evident spasm of the coronary arteries and arterioles. It led to impaired blood coagulation with increased thrombosis and insufficient blood supply to the left ventricle of heart. The supervisory authority also emphasized that no injuries were found on the body of the civil activist.
