Kazakhstan: prisoner disemboweled himself to help a woman
Alexander Chekashkin, who is serving a sentence in UK-161 \ 12, a prison for especially dangerous criminals, located in the city of Arkalyk in the Kostanay region, ripped open his stomach to protect the lady’s honor. This was reported by the well-known Kazakhstani human rights activist Elena Semenova.
“Convict Alexander Chekashkin called and said that he was forced to commit an act of self-mutilation to attract attention and save a woman who is being held in an institution in Arkalyk from daily rape by the employees of the institution. According to Chekashkin, he found no other way out to help the convicted woman Veronica. However, he was not taken to the hospital, and was sewn up in the institution, but the investigative group was not called in. The convict said that the investigator and other persons allegedly came, but no one took a statement on the fact of what was happening. While the convict was talking on the payphone about what had happened, they tried to take his phone away, in connection with which there can be no doubt that the convicted Alexander Chekashkin and the woman held in the institution will be pressured to hide all information. I ask for an urgent response, convicted Chekashkin and a convicted woman need security, there is no need to send local prosecutors and employees, because it is pointless and ineffective, “Semenova said.
It should be noted that the UK-161 \ 12 prison, better known as the Butchers’ Zone, was founded in 1988. As a rule, people who have committed murders – double or triple, rape and complicity in several murders – are prisoned at this place. Since its foundation, only males have served their sentences in this prison, but in 2019 a female was transferred here for the first time.
As the press service of the Department of Penitentiary System in the Kostanay region reported then, the 26-year-old girl was serving a sentence for murder in LA-155/4 (colony in Almaty region). However, for systematic violations of the established order, she was transferred to the Arkalyk prison.
“A convict from Almaty region is serving her sentence in solitary confinement, as there are no other female representatives there and have not been there since the very foundation of the prison,” the press service said, adding that the girl will have to serve her sentence for another 8 years.
