Kazakhstan: human rights organization defends Nazarbayev’s interests

An amazing lawsuit was filed with the court of the Ereymentau district of the Akmola region. The plaintiff – is a human rights non-profit organization, the Ar-Bedel Public Foundation decided to intercede for the first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, and filed a civil suit against activist Aizhan Akisheva, who, according to the plaintiff, publishes negative information about Nazarbayev’s activities.

As noted by the Ar-Bedel Public Foundation, activist Aizhan Akisheva has for a long time systematically published on her pages on social networks materials that discredit the image of the first President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, and also contain “calls for the overthrow of the government, participation in unauthorized rallies; statements expressing a threat to commit illegal actions; information that can influence the formation of negative public opinion regarding the activities of a political leader, negative attitudes towards the political system in Kazakhstan, in general.

“The materials published by the Respondent are, within their meaning, aimed at forming a negative public image of a“ common enemy ”, discrediting the First President – Elbasy, as well as the apparatus of state power, in general,” the lawsuit says.

The plaintiff asks the court to oblige the defendant to stop spreading false information discrediting and insulting the human dignity of the first president of the country and to remove all disrespectful posts addressed to him on Akisheva’s Facebook page.

Meanwhile, according to other civic activists, Akisheva in no way calls for the overthrow of the government. The only thing that she systematically asks from the international community is to impose personal sanctions against specific violators of human rights in Kazakhstan.

“This is not illegal. And this is not interference in internal affairs. Respect for human rights is an international obligation of Kazakhstan. Moreover, how Nazarbayev’s criticism is a call for unsanctioned rallies? how does this contribute to social unrest? How does criticism of Nazarbayev increase the danger of military intervention and foreign interference in the internal affairs of Kazakhstan? Since when is it impossible to write your opinion, which is critical to the authorities? How does this undermine the international image of the state? ”, Asks representatives of the # IHaveAChoiсe #ActivistsNotExtremists activist group.

They also emphasize that this is not the first statement of the Ar-Bedel public foundation in defense of Nazarbayev. Thus, earlier the NGO had already filed a civil suit against ten activists and human rights defenders for insulting Nursultan Nazarbayev.

It should be noted that the website of the Ar-Bedel public foundation in the section describing the organization says the following: The Ar-Bedel Public Foundation was established in 2020 as a human rights non-profit organization specializing in educational, analytical, and legal advisory activities in the field of providing the constitutional rights and freedoms of citizens to the protection and inviolability of private life, personal and family secrets, honor, and dignity; personal non-property rights and legally protected interests of organizations, including the inviolability of business reputation; prevention and counteraction to cyberbullying and other illegal acts in the network, infringing on the inviolability of personal non-property rights of citizens and legal entities.
