Kazakhstan: another judge is suspected of bribery
The City Court of Almaty appealed to the Prosecutor’s Office to find and prosecute those who had disseminated false information concerning the detention of judge Svetlana Zholmanova on social networks.
Information about the arrest of the judge appeared on messengers and social networks last Thursday. The posts reported that during a search in Zholmanova’s office, they found $ 4,500, and at home – another $ 2.8 million. About $ 600,000 were found in the judge’s car.
In addition, it was clarified that the amount of the bribe, that the judge received from one of the construction companies (in fact, she was detained for this reason), amounted to $ 1.18 million.
Moreover, this information was published by Aigul Orynbek on her page. Aigul is a member of the National Council of Public Trust under the President of Kazakhstan.
“If an ordinary judge was caught with such a bribe, then what we can say about the chairpersons…” Orynbek wrote.
Meanwhile, as reported in the National Security Committee, the pre-trial investigation against Zholmanova is being conducted under the article “large-scale fraud”.
“The judge Zholmanova is suspected of committing fraudulent actions related to assisting interested parties in making judgments in their favor. During the search activities, a large sum of money was found and confiscated from the judge,” the Department said in its statement.
In turn, the City Court of Almaty denied the disseminated information about the fabulous sums found at Zholmanova during the search.
“This information is not true. $ 10,000 was confiscated in her office, and nothing was confiscated in the judge’s house. The powers of the judge were suspended by the order of the Chairman of the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan,” the press service of the City Court informed.
In addition, the Department noted that they have applied to the City Prosecutor’s Office with the statement on bringing to criminal responsibility those who disseminate this false information.
Aigul Orynbek was surprised by the statement of the City Court.
“If it’s true that the judge took bribes, then what is the lie? Oh yes, the judge received less money – only $ 10,000. But why did no one immediately report this? Why did you allow this false information to spread?” Orynbek said in response.
