Kazakhstan: another group of corrupt officials appeared before the court
In Kazakhstan, the fight against corruption among officials continues.
At a briefing, Daniyar Bigaydarov, an investigator for especially important cases of the Anti-Corruption Agency, said that last week Baimbetov, head of the Architecture and Urban Planning Department of Chimkent city, was sentenced to 10 years in prison. And Aitbaev, director of Invesstroyproekt LLP, was sentenced to 8 years in prison. They were suspected of embezzling budgetary funds in the amount of $ 1.1 million during the state procurement of works to conduct a topographic survey of the city of Chimkent.
In the West Kazakhstan region, the deputy head of the veterinary department of the city of Uralsk, Iztleuov, was convicted for collecting funds from entrepreneurs for accelerating the delivery of meat products to the laboratory for examination.
“Widespread corruption manifests itself in the activities of the national company “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy”, where individual leaders are engaged in extortion of large bribes from entrepreneurs for the unchecked passage of railcars. Such facts were suppressed in Almaty region (on the part of the head of the railway station “Altynkol” and the head of the cargo department of the station), the East Kazakhstan region, Kostanay region (on the part of director of the regional branch of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, his deputy and other persons), Akmola region (on the part of the head of the station in Kokshetau), Kyzylorda region (on the part of the head of the transportation’s station, Sholtabaev, and others), Pavlodar region and Chimkent city,” noted Bigaydarov. “The criminal schemes, organized by them, allowed them to illegally enrich themselves, while bribes ranged from $ 240 to $ 12,000, and the total amount reached tens of thousands of dollars.
He also said that the exposure of criminal schemes in the inspection of transport control continues. For example, in Almaty region, the deputy head of this department, Zhanturov, received illegal remuneration in the amount from $ 120 to $ 570 for the unchecked passage of motor vehicles on a systematic basis.
“In Turkestan region, the head of the Department of State Architectural Control of Turkestan region, Bektayev, was imposed a fine of $ 31.6 thousand. Contrary to the legal ban, he participated in the management of a number of companies,” Bigaydarov added.
Meanwhile, according to the press service of the Financial Monitoring Agency, a criminal case is being investigated in Kostanay region against a group of persons who embezzled budget funds in the amount of $ 1.1 million allocated under the state investment program as subsidies for the purchase of equipment for lifting water from wells using solar energy. Currently, the criminal case is under consideration in court.
