In Tajikistan, dozens of people die from coronavirus every day
Dozens of people die every day in northern Tajikistan. The authorities continue to declare that there are no cases of coronavirus in the country.
A source in the health department of Sogd region of Tajikistan on anonymous terms told ACCA that at the moment a real epidemic of coronavirus has begun in the region.
“Today, the regional hospital, city maternity hospital and children’s hospital have actually turned into hospitals for receiving patients with coronavirus,” the source said. “Yes, I know that officially the tests give a negative result, but we send all the data to Dushanbe, and from there we already get the result. But, we understand that this is a coronavirus, and the authorities are trying to hide this fact, which further exacerbates the situation.”
According to the source, only in the regional hospital of Sogd, today there are more than 400 people with suspected coronavirus. “5-6 people die every day, and these statistics are growing every day,” the official emphasized. “The hospitals lack the necessary equipment, protective equipment, and medicines. There are no stocks mentioned in official reports. A few days ago, a consignment of protective equipment arrived from Dushanbe, which was only enough for 3 days, and today doctors have nothing to wear. One protective suit can be used during 8 hours; after it is necessary to get rid of it. If we fail to make deliveries on time, there will be even more patients, and especially among doctors.”
One of the doctors, who works directly with patients, in an interview with ACCA said that the situation in the region is much worse than people imagine.
“On the first day, when we started mass reception of citizens, I was shocked, because hundreds of people resembled zombies. Everyone had the same symptoms, and every day the situation worsens,” the doctor said. “We were forbidden to disclose this information, but people should know about it, since there are more and more sick and dying every day. It is necessary to declare quarantine in the country completely; otherwise tragedy is inevitable.”
According to him, the authorities intentionally hide the real situation of patients with coronavirus, saying that the tests give a negative result.
“When a man died in Jabborrasul district, it was stated that it was pneumonia. However, today 5 people, who have contacted him, have already died,” the doctor said. “But the main center of mass coronavirus disease was the garment factory “Javoni”. More than 100 employees of this company were quarantined because they had all the symptoms of coronavirus, but they let them leave before the end of the two-week quarantine. This could not be done even if the tests gave a negative result. Today, many of these people are already in serious condition in hospitals.”
The doctor associates the mass disease of the employees of the garment factory with the recent delivery of equipment from Italy for the sewing of protective masks.
“It was after the start of work with this equipment that the mass illness of the employees of this factory began,” the doctor noted. “Today, everyone, who has contacted the employees of this enterprise, is at risk.”
Recall that in Tajikistan to date, no quarantine has been introduced. For extraordinary holidays, only schools were sent.
