In Kyrgyzstan, police investigator was detained for extortion

A citizen asked the Internal Investigation Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic to take measures against a police officer who extorted money from her for a positive solution to the issue of pre-trial proceedings.

Employees of the Internal Investigation Service, with the participation of the Financial Police investigator, carried out operational investigative measures to detain a person suspected of extorting a bribe.

“On October 25, 2019, during joint operational investigations in Bishkek, the investigator of the Investigation Service of the Department of Internal Affairs of Sverdlovsk region was detained. He was extorting a bribe of $143 (10 000 KGS),” the MIA said.

Further investigation is being conducted by the Financial Police.

We add that for this crime, according to article 326 “Extortion of a bribe”, a punishment of imprisonment for a term of 7.5 to 10 years with the deprivation of the right to hold certain posts or engage in certain activities for up to 3 years with a fine of up to $3150 (220 000 KGS).
