In Kyrgyzstan, former capital mayor was sentenced to 15 years in prison

According to the Prosecutor’s office, the former mayor Albek Ibraimov committed a number of crimes while serving as mayor of Bishkek and as chairman of the board of Transnational Corporation “Dastan” JSC.

The verdict today, on December 23, was issued by the Lenin district court of the capital. Ibraimov passed the accused in several criminal cases, which were combined in one proceeding. He was convicted of all crimes and sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The ex-mayor was accused of corruption during the construction of the school in the residential complex “Palace of Justice” (“Kalys-Ordo”). Ibraimov was also involved in the case of the purchase of I-239 products by the Transnational Corporation “Dastan” JSC at an inflated cost, the case of the sale of 100% of the shares of the boarding house “Sunny beach” and the case of corruption in the transfer of municipal land to the ownership of affiliates.

“We look forward to a fair sentence. A fair sentence in this case is that the court should acquit Albek Ibraimov. The prosecution could not prove his guilt during the trial. I spoke in the concluding part of the debate and, in particular, noted that the school examination was presented with numerous violations and that it could not be presented in the indictment. If we exclude this examination from the case, then nothing remains,” the lawyer of the defendant Sergey Slesarev commented before announcing the verdict.

According to him, the verdict against Albek Ibraimov is unfair.

“He was found guilty of all episodes. This is a trial error. Albek Ibraimov held his own. He said: everything will be fine,” the lawyer emphasized.

He added that a decision on further steps would be taken after consulting with clients.
