In Kazakhstan, three police officers were detained for drug trafficking

The investigation team of the Department of the National Security Committee (DNSC) in Almaty region detained three policemen from Karasai district Department for fight against drug trafficking on suspicion of drug trafficking and bribery. Among the detainees was the Head of the regional Department.

The information about the detention of drug fighters was reported by the agency “KazTAG” with reference to the source. According to the investigation, the police officers were making bribes from drug addicts for various services: for some, they reduced the weight of the drugs discovered during the detention; they released the others for a fee, and blackmailed the rest.

In the interests of the investigation, the names of the detainees were not disclosed. All three are under arrest.

It should be noted that the police officers from the Drug Control Department of Karasai region are not the first time appearing in criminal cases. For example, in July 2016, three employees of this department in a similar composition were convicted – the Head of the Department, the senior security officer and the security officer. As follows from the case file, in March 2013, a trio of police officers detained in the village of Akzhar (Almaty region) 39-year-old Andrei Yu-En-Gin. A few days later, the detainee committed suicide in a temporary detention center.

The investigation established that the detention was unlawful and the detainee was tortured. All three were sentenced to 2 to 2.5 years in a general regime prison. In addition, they were deprived of the right to hold positions in law enforcement for a period of two years.
