In Kazakhstan, famous lawyer announced attempt on her life

A member of the National Council of Public Confidence under the President of Kazakhstan, the well-known Kazakh lawyer Ayman Umarova, who is actively involved in the country’s most high-profile lawsuits, nearly was killed in her own car. According to Umarova, it was an attempted murder. However, the police are conducting an investigation under the article “Intentional destruction of another’s property”.

The lawyer said that she was driving her car on May 19 at night. Suddenly, the speed of the car began to increase, although Umarova, according to her, didn’t step on the gas.

“My brakes started to fail. There was a car before me. I nearly drove into this car. I decided to pull in to the side of the main road so as not to crash into a car. At that moment, my car started to burn. When the car began to burn, suddenly the handbrake was activated and the car stopped. The police drove up quickly. Firefighters were called. Someone wrote that someone set fire to my car, but this was not so. It was not set on fire. I believe that the question was not about destroying my property, but about getting rid of me!” Umarova said.

It should be noted that two hours before the incident with the car, Umarova made a video appeal to the President of the country, in which she reported an attempt on a foreign investor’s life, the facts of extortion, and illegal actions of police officers of the city of Almaty and the Prosecutor’s office.

“I will talk about how our police, Anti-Corruption Agency, prosecutors and other departments work. This live broadcast is an appeal to the President Kasym-Zhomart Tokaev,” Umarova said.

The lawyer further recalled that, as she previously reported, the investor from China, Liu Wei, was harassed in Almaty. Someone attempted on her life in an emergency hospital. The police department illegally registered criminal cases against her and tried to take her into custody.

“This story began when Liu Wei gave $1.5 million to our citizen Galymzhan, then gave $300 thousand to another one. Further, a certain Asset came. He introduced himself as an employee of the Department of the National Security Committee. They all received money from her by deception. They took money for a bribe to the police of Almaty, then for something else. In general, it’s a long story. Then these people didn’t want to reimburse money. So, Liu Wei went to the court. At that time, two Chinese citizens wrote a statement on her, allegedly she deceived them. However, these people have long left for China and couldn’t write the statement. At the same time, all business between them and Liu Wei took place in China. That is, our police decided to investigate cases in the jurisdiction of China!” Umarova emphasized in her appeal to the President.

As for the sudden ignition of her car, Umarova has several versions about who is behind this.

“I will voice one of the versions – this is the case of the investor Liu Wei,” Umarova said in a live broadcast today. “The incident that happened to me, I associate with my work, with the fact that law enforcement officers, related to the Liu Wei’s case, can be involved in this. Plus, the employees of the National Security Committee, as well as, the leadership of these law enforcement agencies, because these employees couldn’t act without the knowledge of their leadership. Dear Mr. Turgumbaev, I suspect your employees of involvement in this case! (ACCA: Erlan Turgumbaev is the Minister of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan.) Who ordered them is another question. There is another policeman, Sani Abdykash. He is in prison for sexual violence against a transgender woman. Of course, he also might be interested! There are other cases,” said Umarova.

Recall that in June 2019, Umarova reported that unknown people entered her house and violently killed her dog. It should be noted that Ayman Umarova initiated the amendments to the legislation of Kazakhstan on the decriminalization of slander, as well as the amendments to the article of the Criminal Code “Fomenting of social, national, gender, racial, class or religious strife” at the first session of the National Council of Public Confidence.

In addition, Ayman Umarova took part in the case of a civil activist Dulat Agadil, who died under strange circumstances in a pre-trial detention center in the city of Nur-Sultan.

However, later Umarova said that she was no longer engaged in this case, since she didn’t want her name to be used in political games.

“I am a lawyer and human rights activist, but not a puppet that can be used on the side of any political group, trying to use the death of Dulat Agadil in their interests under the pretext of human rights activities,” Umarova explained.
