In Kazakhstan, corrupt officials are identified every day
While the Kazakh authorities report on their success in eradicating bribery, corruption in the country continues to go up and does not want to be eradicated. The Anti-Corruption Agency every day reports on detention of another bribe-taker.
Recently, ACCA reported on the trial of the director of the Arkalyk Polytechnic College A. Ospnov, who decided to improve his financial situation by charging additional rates to teachers’ salaries, and then appropriating this money to himself.
In less than three days, anti-corruption fighters have identified another offender in the education system. This time, the deputy director of the Aral multidisciplinary college, which is directly subordinate to the Education Department of Kyzylorda region, was caught.
As the employees of the Anti-Corruption Agency managed to establish, the education official incited a resident of the region to give a bribe of a little more than a thousand dollars to the employees of the education department for positively resolving the issue of his employment as a teacher in this college.
The deputy director was not arrested because he fully admitted his guilt in the deed.
Meanwhile, anti-corruption officials from Akmola region began a pre-trial investigation against the head of the railway station “Kokshetau-1”, which belongs to the Akmola branch of the freight transport road of the national company “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” (Kazakhstan Railways).
The station manager is suspected of receiving a bribe from a subordinate for not dismissing him on the fact that he was drunk at the workplace and for general protection.
Meanwhile, corruption fighters from Zhambyl region shared their successes in the fight against this evil during last year. As it turned out that in this region, first of all, corruption in the sphere of professional relations in state educational institutions is progressing.
So, for example, the District court of Shu sentenced to a fine of $11.5 thousand the director of the art school of the education department under the administration of Shu district. The woman received a bribe from the applicant for the position of head of the school hobby group. The size of the bribe was $380.
In Moyinkum district, the director of the music school received a bribe from the teacher in the amount of $130 as a reward for not reducing the number of class hours. Finally, the court sentenced her to pay a fine of $2.5 thousand.
The head of the kindergarten of Baizak region was unlucky too. She received a reward from the applicant for accepting him to work as a kindergarten teacher’s assistant. Instead of replenishing the family budget by $340, the manager eventually had to pay a fine of $13.5 thousand in favor of the state.
Meanwhile, according to the press service of the President of Kazakhstan, today in the capital, there was a meeting between Kasym-Zhomart Tokaev and the Executive Secretary of the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO), Gianluca Esposito. The parties discussed the issues of Kazakhstan joining the Group of States against Corruption and prospects for cooperation with the Council of Europe.
“We are very interested in participating in the activities of this organization. We are convinced that this will give a serious additional impetus to our efforts to combat corruption, and will also contribute to solve other problems that impede our progress,” Tokaev said in a conversation with Esposito.
In turn, the Executive Secretary of GRECO expressed confidence that the organization’s cooperation with Kazakhstan would be mutually beneficial for both parties.
“Kazakhstan’s membership will contribute not only to promoting the principles and mechanisms of the fight against corruption, but also to improving the business climate and improving the scope of public services,” emphasized Esposito.
