In Kazakhstan, another group of corrupt officials was revealed
Kazakh authorities are strengthening quarantine measures to combat the coronavirus pandemic. And the Anti-Corruption Agency of Kazakhstan is stepping up the fight against bribery.
A few days ago, anti-corruption fighters exposed the deputy mayor of Panfilovsky district of Almaty region in receiving a bribe of $500. In addition, the chief specialist of the construction department of the same district was detained while receiving a bribe of $250. The third detainee was the head of the district construction department, who got $125. All three received a bribe from a company representative who worked on the construction of two 60-apartment buildings under the state housing program.
Meanwhile, the deputy head of one of the departments of the regional city hall was detained in Zhambyl region. According to the Anti-Corruption Department, he stole about $124 000 by signing and submitting acceptance certificates for actually not completed work within the framework of state procurement for the facility “Restoring fences and installing warning signs at reclaimed uranium deposits in Moyinkum and Kordai districts of Zhambyl region”.
In Kostanay region, an employee of the city hall also distinguished himself. The anti-corruption service of the region launched a pre-trial investigation against the deputy head of the department of education. He is suspected of fraud and incitement to give a bribe to a representative of a commercial organization and to seize $35 000 by deceiving him, allegedly for positively resolving the issue of concluding contracts on public procurement of computers worth more than $918 000 from one source, and unimpeded signing of acceptance certificates, which in turn were not part of his official powers.
The head of the department of the quality assurance in the field of education under the mayor’s office of Mangistau region became a defendant in a pre-trial investigation for illegal participation in entrepreneurial activity. As the anti-corruption fighters established, the official created a company with which an agreement was signed for the supply of food products worth $59 000 allocated under the state program “Development of Education and Science of Kazakhstan”.
Meanwhile, in the East Kazakhstan region, the scandal around theft of budget funds in the amount of $883 700 continues to gain in strength during the construction of the educational building for the Republican specialized boarding school of the Olympic reserve in the city of Ridder.
Recall that in the framework of this case, the arrest for a period of two months was received by the current and former deputy chairmen of the Committee on Sports and Physical Culture under the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan.
“The Anti-Corruption Service of the East Kazakhstan region, during the investigation of a criminal case on the embezzlement of budget funds in a particularly large amount during the construction of a training sports building in the city of Ridder (East Kazakhstan region), registered a new pre-trial investigation against one of the indicated deputy chairmen of the Committee on Sports and Physical Culture,” the Anti-Corruption Agency said.
During the investigation, new information was found out: the official received a bribe in the amount of $28 500 and a Toyota Hilux car worth $37 000 for signing acceptance certificates concerning the construction project of the educational building in the city of Ridder.
