In Kazakhstan, a corruption fighter was detained for bribe

The Anti-Corruption Agency of Kazakhstan extorted a bribe taker in its own ranks.

According to the press service of the Office, the interim head of the third (operational) department is suspected of receiving a bribe on an especially large scale.

The suspect is detained and placed in the temporary detention center of Kyzylorda. The criminal investigation is under the personal control of the chairman of the Agency. Other information in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code of Kazakhstan is not subject to disclosure.

Meanwhile, according to a sociological survey conducted by Finprom Research Agency, in Kazakhstan, the level of trust increased on the part of citizens regarding the Anti-Corruption Agency. So for three years, this level has increased from 16.1 to 25.1%. In addition, over the same period, the number of citizens who do not trust the anti-corruption fighters has decreased (from 4.1% to 1.6%).

The study was conducted with the assistance of the Anti-Corruption Agency. The survey was attended by more than 58 thousand respondents. At the same time, 30.8% of respondents expressed their full willingness to participate as volunteers in anti-corruption activities. Another 63% of respondents said that, in principle, they are ready to take part in anti-corruption activities.

According to the Agency, in January-February 2020, there were 1255 criminal cases involving corruption crimes. It’s 0.1% (or 1 case) less than in the same period last year. Such data are provided by finprom.kz.

Of these, the largest number of cases was for serious corruption crimes: 885 (+69). Following are cases of corruption crimes of average gravity: 207 (+17). The number of cases of corruption-related crimes of small gravity decreased by 77 cases (to 142), in especially grave cases – by 10 (to 21 cases).

At the same time, 31% of respondents never encountered the Anti-Corruption Service, which, however, is less than in 2016, when their share was 35.1%.
