High-rise building with a Medical center for a judge’s salary

A new corruption scandal flares up in Kyrgyzstan. Journalists learned that the judge of the Bishkek city court, Mira Dzheenbekova, managed to buy a plot of 7 hundred square meters in the very center of the capital for a modest salary.

The story was made public due to caring residents of the Vostok-5 micro district, in which the judge’s land is situated. It turned out that on 7 hundred square meters it is planned to build a multistory building with developed infrastructure, own parking and a Medical center on the ground floor.

Despite the fact that the plot is small and situated in close proximity to the already built high-rise buildings, it turned out that nothing was violated from the point of view of the law. According to the official information of the relevant services, all permits for the construction are in order, and the construction of the next skyscraper has been agreed.

The question is, how did Mira Dzheenbekova manage to buy an expensive plot in the center of the city for the salary of a judge?

According to the tax declaration submitted by her in 2017, her labor income for the year amounted to $8.500, about $708 per month. There are no other specified incomes in her declaration.

Moreover, a plot in the center of Bishkek cannot be bought even with the annual income of Mira Dzheenbekova.

“A plot of 7 hundred square meters in the Vostok-5 area will cost from $100.000 and more. Much depends on the shape of the plot, and how much it is really possible to build a multistory building on it,” the expert explained to ACCA.
