Former Turkmen Interior Minister was convicted of taking bribes
At the meeting of the Security Council of Turkmenistan held on December 3, Attorney General Batyr Atdaev reported to the President Berdimuhamedov that the former Interior Minister Isgender Mulikov had been arrested and convicted.
The report was shown on TV in Turkmenistan. The program also showed the former minister, shaven, in a prison robe and repenting of committed crimes. It is not specified when the sentence was pronounced and for how long Mulikov was sentenced.
Isgender Mulikov was convicted of accepting bribes on an especially large scale and abuse of power. During a search in his house, a large amount of jewelry and a large amount of money were found. The illegally acquired property of the ex-minister was confiscated in favor of the state. Former Interior Minister Isgender Mulikov fully admitted his guilt. Mulikov was removed from his post on October 1, 2019, deprived of all awards, and demoted to police major. Mammetkhan Chakyev was appointed the new head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
