Damage from corruption actions of Gulnara Karimova will be appreciated by new experts
On 255 criminal episodes in the criminal cases against Gulnara Karimova, the investigator for particularly important cases of the Department for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption under the General Prosecutor’s office of Uzbekistan, Rasul Yuldashev, demanded a new, comprehensive examination.
Gulnara’s daughter Iman Karimova posted two pages of the resolution issued by the investigator on November 1 on a social network. It noted that “to date, fines amounting to about $6 billion have been exacted from various companies in cases related to G. Karimova and government bodies of countries such as the USA, Holland and Switzerland, and the image and other interests of these companies have also been seriously damaged”.
Experts in Uzbekistan believe that these circumstances could cause moral and economic harm to the Republic of Uzbekistan in the country and abroad, including the formation of negative opinions among foreign investors and the business environment on investing and entrepreneurial relations, and the appearance of tendentious estimates and forecasts in various international ratings and discussions.
According to the ACCA expert, it is curious that the system of expert bureaus and departments of the Republic of Uzbekistan does not have a specialized institution to establish such damage and harm. “If all six lawyers show professionalism, they will have to work hard on the conclusions of experts, including representatives of the Agency for information and mass communications under the Presidential Administration, the Writers Union of Uzbekistan, the Public Opinion Research Center “Izhtimoyi Fikr” and the Center for spirituality and enlightenment,” expert noted.
In his opinion, real damage has been already calculated in the economic bloc of the government. “Now, the involvement of fighters for spirituality in the so-called comprehensive examination has the character of a new propaganda campaign with obscure goals and zero effect on citizens of the country,” he emphasized.
Iman Karimova is sure that “the government, which publicly announces the development of Uzbekistan, brings the country with its own hands in a worldwide legal shame”.
A new turn in the case of Gulnara Karimova may well indicate a pause with the return of illegally received funds to Uzbekistan. On December 6, the Prosecutor General’s office issued the statement initiating the fifth criminal case against the daughter of the late President Islam Karimov. It can be seen as an instrument of pressure from the government of Uzbekistan on international partners in the repatriation of assets.
