Uzbekistan: Investigator of Prosecutor’s Office was detained for accepting bribe

Upon taking a $50,000 bribe, employees of the State Security Service detained an investigator of the Prosecutor’s Office of Uchtepa district of the capital. The press service of the General Prosecutor’s Office disseminated information about the operational event.

The message doesn’t say about the circumstances of taking the bribe. The text only notes that a criminal case has been initiated, and the Prosecutor’s Office of the capital is conducting investigative actions.

Then the Service noticed ‘heated discussions on social networks and the media’ and responded lengthy to users’ activity.

“At the legislative level, it’s forbidden to interfere in the investigative process, and it’s also forbidden to predict its outcomes and speculate with false information. All this hampers an independent consideration of the case,” the press service explained and called on the public to cooperate in the fight against corruption.

Earlier, ACCA wrote about a more detailed explanation by the Prosecutor General’s Office concerning the detention of its high-ranking employee. On December 5, 2021, in Tashkent, while taking a bribe in the amount of $29,000, the deputy head of the main department of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Uzbekistan was detained.

According to the Service, in October 2021, the official, who held the position of a specialized prosecutor in the city of Almalyk (Tashkent region), demanded material remuneration from his acquaintance (the head of a construction company) for assisting in winning a tender held in accordance with the law.
