In Turkmenistan, authorities deprive women of driver license

There is information that in Turkmenistan under any pretext, traffic police officers take away driver’s license from women.

Some sources informed that traffic police confiscate drivers’ license, and cars are sent to the penalty parking. At the same time, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan imposed an unofficial ban on the issuance and extension of driver’s license to women and on driving a motor vehicle. At the same time, the traffic police do not refer to any regulatory acts. The country’s authorities and state media do not explain the reasons and do not publicly affect the issue of depriving women of driver’s license. This situation is also observed in the capital of Turkmenistan, in the city of Ashgabat, where the police stop the women driving and take away their driver’s license without explanation, and the car is taken to the center of the traffic police.

Affected motorists complain to various authorities, but because of bureaucracy and lawlessness they cannot change the situation even when they turn to the Prosecutor’s office. When asked to explain the reason for what is happening, women receive monotonous answers. The letters contain the same answer that no violations were revealed in the work of the police and that they recommend contacting the police. Motorists in a private conversation with traffic police officers find out that this unspoken order comes from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
