In Kyrgyzstan, a blogger was detained for inciting inter-regional animosity

In the framework of the criminal case under investigation on the incitement of inter-regional animosity, the administrator of the group “BespredelKG” [LawlessnessKG] Aftandil Zhorobekov was detained and placed in a pre-trial detention center of the State Committee for National Security. This was reported in the State Committee.

According to the State Committee for National Security, it was established that Aftandil Zhorobekov distributed to users of social networks publications that contained deliberately false and provocative information that discredited the current government and called for insubordination and organization of mass protests. According to the State Committee for National Security, his actions divided users into opposing groups, provoked mutual insulting comments, which ultimately led for fomenting of inter-regional strife among people.

The State Committee published screenshots of comments for which the blogger was detained.

Aftandil Zhorobekov was detained on November 24, the State Committee for National Security suspects him of inciting inter-regional animosity. The blogger is placed in the pre-trial detention center. He is suspected of committing a crime under the article 313 part 2 of the paragraph “Inciting inter-regional animosity” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

In turn, the sister of the detained blogger appealed to the President and society for support.

In her video message published on social networks, Chinara Temirova noted that her brother, Aftandil Zhorobekov, was detained without reason.

The girl asks the President Sooronbai Jeenbekov to pay attention to unfounded accusations and the detention of her brother.

“He was detained on November 24, the day before the planned peaceful rally. He was charged with a felony. A Facebook post is provided as evidence. We believe that this is an attempt on human freedom of speech,” Temirova said.
