Turkmenistan: authorities may extradite Afghan refugees to Taliban

Officials of the Ministry for National Security received an oral order from the Ministry to strengthen supervision over Afghan refugees living in Turkmenistan since the early 90s.

Afghans, who raise suspicious to MNS officers and those serving sentences in Turkmen prisons, are summoned for interrogation in order to obtain information about relatives and friends living in Afghanistan.

According to ACCA sources, the interrogated are required to provide all information regarding their relatives and what connections they have in the country: address of residence, full names of all family members. Also, they were asked to provide personal phone numbers. All contacts in their phones were checked by officers, all numbers were put on wiretapping and Internet traffic check.

There are rumors among Afghan refugees that the Turkmen side intends to hand them over to the Taliban in Afghanistan. Our source close to the government of the country confirmed information about the possible expulsion of refugees to Afghanistan at the request of Taliban.

Meanwhile, things are not so quiet on the Turkmen-Afghan border. Fights are taking place between the Turkmen border guards and the militants of the Taliban terrorist organization, in which Turkmen soldiers are dying. The government of the country in every possible way hides information about the soldiers and officers killed and wounded. An ACCA source close to the leadership of the Turkmenistan Border Service said that the border guards were ordered not to respond to Taliban provocations and not to return fire. During the attacks from the Afghan side, several dozen border guards were killed and wounded.

ACCA managed to establish the name of one of the wounded soldiers, who is currently in the hospital with bullet wounds. Serviceman Mamedov from Dashoguz velayat is serving in Kushka.

It should be reminded that the authorities of Turkmenistan have repeatedly held meetings with the Taliban. The authorities of Turkmenistan managed to enlist the support of the Taliban leadership on the issue of the TAPI gas pipeline, which is important for the Turkmen economy.
