Kyrgyzstan: deputy proposed to send prisoners under house arrest

Member of Parliament Dastan Bekeshev proposed to release prisoners under house arrest. The parliamentarian told the ACCA about this.

According to him, in a crisis situation, the country should switch to a saving mode. According to Bekeshev, one of the ways to save money is to reduce the costs of keeping people in jail and to hold an amnesty.

“Today, the state spends $ 1.48 from the budget on food for one prisoner per day. During a year, this is already a large amount. If we release some of the prisoners, it will take the burden off the budget. I proposed to hold an amnesty and, in addition, to release persons, who are at pre-trial detention centers, under house arrest. We are now talking about the crisis and the lack of budgetary funds. And what to do when there is no money? – Save!” the people’s deputy emphasized.

According to him, it is about releasing from the pre-trial detention center persons, who are suspected not of serious crimes.

“These may be persons suspected of economic crimes, disorderly conduct. I don’t think that they will immediately run to rob someone or kick up a row,” Bekeshev said.

However, according to the deputy, his proposal has so far been ignored.

“There should be a reaction from the Prosecutor General’s Office. They must develop an appropriate resolution and apply to the court with it,” the parliamentarian concluded.

It’s worth adding that in Kyrgyzstan on March 12, two draft laws “On amnesty in connection with the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War” were submitted for public discussion at once. To date, the documents have been sent to the vote in the second reading.
