Civil activist Murat Dushemov was sentenced by the City Court of Dashoguz to four years in prison in a general regime colony.
The trial ended on August 16. The activist Dushemov was found guilty under Article 108 “Intentional infliction of harm to health of moderate severity” and under Article 232 “Extortion” of the Criminal Code of Turkmenistan.
Under Article 108, the activist was convicted for an alleged fight with inmates in the temporary detention facility. Dushemov and his companions were arrested for 15 days for blocking the road. Nurmetova was fined and released. Dzhumakayev served 15 days and was also released. Dushemov was left under arrest. After 15 days, two men were put in his cell. They started a fight in the cell, and the police were told that Dushemov had attacked them.
Under Article 232, the activist was convicted of extortion in a fabricated case. The activist is accused of allegedly extorting money from the head physician of the polyclinic for a video recording with the participation of doctors of this polyclinic.
According to experts, in recent years, the authorities of Turkmenistan have exerted unprecedented pressure on activists and ordinary citizens, even on those who live outside the country. Police officers and the Ministry of National Security prosecute all those suspected of protest moods and fabricate criminal cases against them.
