Kyrgyzstan: head of state enterprise, detained for corruption, was placed in jail

On August 5, the Pervomaiskiy District Court of Bishkek, in relation to the director of the state enterprise “Kyrgyzkomur” Kanatbek Ashyrbaev, ruled a preventive measure in the form of detention.

According to the court, he was detained for the period of pre-trial proceedings, that is, until October 3 of this year, with stay in the detention facility of the State Committee for National Security.

It’s worth recalling that earlier the State Committee for National Security reported that they had suppressed a corruption scheme in the state enterprise “Kyrgyzkomur”.

“In order to derive benefits, the CEO of the state enterprise “Kyrgyzkomur” created a stable corruption scheme in the sale of mined coal from the coal-field “Kara-Keche”. Production volumes were deliberately understated and appropriated. And then the stolen coal was sold through controlled companies to various consumers, including the thermal power plant of Bishkek,” the State Committee said.

The investigation was able to establish that at least more than 370 thousand tons of coal worth $ 7 million (600 million KGS) were appropriated in this way.
