Kazakhstan: Vice mayor and Ministry’s official are suspected of taking bribe

The Anti-Corruption Agency has begun a pre-trial investigation against the vice mayor of one of the districts of the East Kazakhstan region.

According to the Anti-Corruption Agency, the official is suspected of receiving a bribe from an entrepreneur in the amount of $ 4,200. In the interests of the investigation, the anti-corruption fighters don’t disclose other information.

Meanwhile, a corruption scandal has erupted within the walls of the Department of energy of Kazakhstan. The head of the department of the Committee for nuclear and energy supervision and control of this Ministry is suspected of receiving a significant bribe through the mediation of his subordinate – the chief specialist of the department for issuing a positive conclusion based on the results of an inspection at a district power plant in one of the districts of Almaty region.

Meanwhile, this is not the only victory of anti-corruption activists in the fight against corruption among officials of Almaty region.

So, thanks to their efforts, the head of the Department for Emergency Situations Darynbek Baysariev, the deputy head of the Firefighting and Rescue Service under the Department for Emergency Situations Alexei Stepanishev, the director of the Regional branch of the state enterprise “Enbek-Zhaugashty” Zhuldyz Baimuratov and the lawyer of the branch were brought to trial on charges in embezzlement of funds allocated from the budget for the overhaul of buildings of fire departments of Almaty region.

According to the court verdict, the director of the branch and the legal adviser were sentenced to 10 years in prison for misappropriation and embezzlement of budgetary funds. And the former head of the Department for Emergency Situations, as well as his employee, got off with three and a half years of restriction of freedom for abuse of authority.
