The Hotline 115 under the Ombudsman’s Office receives many complaints from the regions of the republic that, in connection with the spread of the coronavirus, some officials of the country began to force people to get vaccinated.
According to the applicants, they are under pressure from their managers, who threaten them if they refuse vaccinations, to fire them or to reduce their salaries. At the same time, the applicants insist that they don’t want to be compulsorily vaccinated.
“Having regard to the large number of such appeals, the Office of the Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan calls on the heads of all state and municipal institutions to refrain from forcing their employees to vaccinate, and even more so, to intimidate them with various measures of influence or repression,” the Office stated.
Human rights activists recalled that for such coercion and persecution, the leaders of organizations, who allowed them, would be punished under the law of the Kyrgyz Republic.
“The law enforcement agencies of the country must ensure the safety of the citizens of our republic and suppress any attempts to coerce them into vaccinating. In this regard, citizens, who are subjected to coercion and intimidation, should officially apply to the relevant state bodies, as well as to the Ombudsman’s Office, if the republic’s law enforcement agencies don’t take appropriate actions,” the Office added.
At the same time, human rights activists noted that they agree that getting vaccinated against coronavirus is the right measure to ensure the safety of the entire population of Kyrgyzstan. In this regard, the Ombudsman recommended that the Ministry of Public Health and Social Development of the republic more actively conduct an explanatory campaign among citizens.
