Civil activist, human rights defender of the movement “Femina Vertute” Ulbolsyn Turdieva from Aktau was detained by the police. About five people took part in the detention of the activist – two in police uniform and three in civilian uniform.
At the time of her arrest, Turdieva went live. The video shows how she, running away from the pursuers, jumps out onto the roadway.
“Look! They are coming to detain me,” Turdieva says. “This one is constantly pursuing me and these two also. I don’t know their names. They hide all the time.”
The policemen begin to demand that the activist leave the road, but she refuses. Then the camera falls and, judging by the sounds, Turdieva is being tied up with force.
Meanwhile, according to the public association “Tirek Alliance”, which deals with the issues of ensuring the rights and informational support of political prisoners in Kazakhstan, the policemen, who detained Turdieva, severely beat her. As a result, she was forced to cut her veins in protest against the violence.
“Instead of being hospitalized to provide appropriate medical care, the authorities illegally arrested Ulbolsyn for 20 days for alleged libel in order to hide the traces of torture,” Alliance said.
The human rights organization also added that an administrative case was opened against Turdieva for reposting a publication on Facebook about the participation of police officer Raisa Kalubaeva in human rights violations, since this publication allegedly doesn’t correspond to reality.
“We demand the immediate release of Ulbolsyn Turdieva and the provision of full-fledged medical assistance to her. We also demand that all police officers, who participated in the beatings, illegal detention and political persecution of Ulbolsyn Turdieva, be brought to justice. We call on the embassies of democratic countries to denounce the political persecution in Kazakhstan and to impose personal sanctions against the head of the National Security Committee Karim Masimov, Prosecutor General Gizat Nurdauletov and the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Erlan Turgumbaev,” Tirek Alliance noted.
